When God finished naming his creations on earth and in the heavens,
It was the little blue flower who so shyly spoke
waving its leaves into the air to get his attention
because it couldn’t remember its name.

Some say that God smiled,
as the tiny flower folded its petals in embarrassment.

“The name I give to you, is ‘ forget-me-not ‘ ” God said.

“For I am your sun at midday.
I am your reflection and your shadow.
I am the source of all beauty.
In everything — I am the best part.
And the best part of you, is me.”

The little blue flower stood straight and tall
and opened its petals wide to look upon the Lord.

And from that moment on,
they say that whenever the wind passes over a field of forget-me-nots
you can hear the sweet sound of flower voices repeating —

“I will always remember you…
I will always remember you.”

The forget-me-not is the state flower of Alaska.
